Collection of different coloring methods I used on a drawing I did. I had a rather strange thought process when I went about this, as you can see here, going from top left to bottom right.
First, a warped coloring of Aigis. I used a clip from the intro as inspriation. I kinda like it, though it creeps me out a little.
Next, I went for monochrome with a touch of red and a blue backdrop. I like this one, and it was the backbone for my improved revisions.
Third is a really...off-kilter image. Some people told me they like this the best.
In the next row, we have a revision of the second image. I added the red to her headphone-y things, then I added more grays to differentiate parts of her headband.
Fifth in the collection is a mix between the final image and the fourth one, combining a grayscaled gradient with the spots of color that I was fond of. I kinda like this more than the other monochromes, though I cheated to get the grayscale gradients to work, so I feel like I probably shouldn't like it more.
Lastly, a first draft of what colors I want to use for my hand-painted version. I used the sidebar icon from P3's battle system for an idea on what I wanted to do, but took out the whites and focused more on using gradients that darkened the color instead.
The illustration was drawn by hand, inked in Sketchbook Pro, and colored in Photoshop. These are all smaller copies of the original, but if you want a specific one posted in its largest size, let me know. The original line art by itself is a whopping 1700x2100, and each of the original colored illustrations are a more manageable 750x1050.
I'll hopefully have the final painting done sometime Mid-June. These are all just drafts and experiments and the like, but I think I might keep making more wacky colors and get more variety in there to make one big sequential illustration.
Programs: Alias Sketchbook Pro 2, Photoshop CS2 Time: 1 hour on the line art, varying times for each color set
